The Museum

The museum is dedicated to preserving the rich history of Ellis County and has certainly achieved its goal. Housed in a captivating 1889 structure located in downtown Waxahachie, the building sits just across the street from the Ellis County Courthouse, adding to its historical significance.

The town experienced significant growth during the cotton boom of the 1800s, but like many communities, it faced economic hardship during the Great Depression. Despite these challenges, Waxahachie persevered, and many of its notable structures, including an impressive collection of Victorian architecture, were saved from demolition. Restoration

In 2023, the Ellis County Museum underwent a significant restoration project that not only revitalized the building but also introduced new event spaces on the third floor.
